DEREK L. TOLIVER – United States Army Reserve Ambassador California

Ambassador Toliver was born in San Francisco, CA where he currently resides with his wife Anitra. In November of 2022 Ambassador Derek L. Toliver, a non-military civilian was appointed to serve a 3-year term as a US Army Reserve Ambassador to the state of California by 3-Star Lt. General Jody J. Daniels, Chief of Army Reserve and Commanding General, US Army Reserve Command. Each Ambassador serves without pay or compensation as a special government employee with the equivalency of a 2-Star Major General. Ambassador Toliver reports to and represents the US Army Reserve Commanding General by educating, supporting, and interacting with elected and appointed government officials, public and private industry partners, the general public, US Army Reserve soldiers, officers, and families, the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and Junior ROTC staff and students, colleges and educational institutions.

Environmental justice advocate Ray Tompkins says homeless shelter residents are forced to breathe air filled with tiny particles that can become embedded deep in the lungs due to placement near cement factories.

The impoverished, isolated and largely African American neighborhoods didn’t always have the dubious distinction of being San Francisco’s outhouse. Until a revamping of the city’s sewer system in the 1970s, only 20 percent of the city’s sewage went to the area’s Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant. Since the revamp, residents there have beseeched the city to do something about the plant’s odor and the unfair sewage burden placed on them with more sewage to come.
